Blog Two: First Drafts
In high school when I would write, my first draft was typically my only draft. I would sit down, write it all in one sitting. I didn’t look at it again once I finished because I expected to get an A. However, in ENC 1101 turning in multiple drafts was a requirement, so at the beginning of the semester I was having to force myself to write multiple drafts and actually put an effort into my revision process(es). Since 1101, writing multiple drafts comes easily for me because I have learned how important it is to create multiple drafts when writing. As elaborated on by Anne Lamotts, I learned even after you revise an essay multiple times, there is always something new that can be revised/added. Now when I write my first draft I don’t try very hard to make it sound “grade worthy” because I know potentially how different the rest of my drafts will be.
